I’m a model working and living in New York City.
I originally immigrated from the West Indies, Guyana as an aspiring model at the ripe age of 19. My quest to make it in the model industry was greatly influenced by my aunt when I worked with her in the summer breaks from school. She owned a very successful boutique in our country and everyone who was of prominence went there to shop for gorgeous clothing. I was always flabbergasted by the intricate details of each garment and how much effort she took to make sure the clothing fitted beautifully on each person. Overtime I fell in love with beautiful clothes and always wanted to wear them, hence my taste for fashion - the modeling experience.
I must say when I moved to New York it was always so competitive and difficult to break into the industry. However, I worked doing beauty magazines, hair and makeup; I also got hired to do work in lingerie, fitting and swimwear. Even though I have been isolated in a small area of the industry I continued to push forward to grab those amazing campaigns. After experiencing much rejection in the industry, I took some time-off to finish college and create a foundation in life out of the concern that I will not quite experience my dream in the industry fully. These days I am back perusing the passion of model with the utmost intent and I am ready physically and mentally to give it my all.
Moreover, I have been dabbling in other aspects of the industry such as influencing and fashion blogging. I love these because I am always inspired to not only look my best, but revel in the idea of setting trends and having one’s own style. I dare to inspire and captivate women everywhere who have not had a chance to really evolve in the industry or those whose looks have not quite yet been embraced as desirable. I believe one can be beautiful and have great style no matter what they wear; we have to first be confident in knowing that beauty comes from within and wearing nice clothes is like have icing on that delicious cake. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and be confident that you can rock it.
